Best Sustainable Container Terminal
On June 24, 2026, at the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards, which is widely regarded as the "Oscars of the logistics industry", held in Shanghai, YANTIAN received the prestigious titles of
Best Global Container Terminal
Best Sustainable Container Terminal
Having been named the "Best Container Terminal – Asia (Over 4 million TEUs)" for three times in 2018, 2023 and 2025, YANTIAN has now achieved a milestone breakthrough by securing the "Best Global Container Terminal" award for the first time. This new global title marks further industry recognition of YANTIAN’s excellent operations, connectivity and resilience.
YANTIAN has also taken the sustainability title, formerly the "Best Green Container Terminal", five times in the eight years since 2019, the only container terminal in the world to have achieved this.
Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of YANTIAN, received the awards and said:
“This proud set of results carries the trust and support of our many customers, and is rooted in our unique natural deep-water channel, extensive network of services, operational excellence and exceptional customer service. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our business partners, customers, government authorities, shareholders and especially to our dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment.
Echoing the three priorities for the 2026 APEC ‘China Year’, i.e. openness, innovation and cooperation, YANTIAN will continue to collaborate with our customers and stakeholders, including Kwai Tsing Container Terminals in Hong Kong, to develop a faster, smarter, greener and more resilient global supply chain and industrial chain.”
As one of the world's largest container terminals, YANTIAN set another record in 2025 with annual throughput surpassing 16 million TEUs, an all-time high. China Customs statistics showed that from January to May this year, Chinese mainland enterprises imported and exported CNY395.8 billion worth of cargoes with other APEC economies via Yantian Port, accounting for more than half of the port's total foreign trade value during the same period. This highlights YANTIAN role as a key gateway connecting the Greater Bay Area with APEC member economies.
With the 2026 APEC "China Year" now under way and Shenzhen preparing to host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, YANTIAN is making the most of its role as an international shipping hub in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). So far this year it has launched 10 new services connecting APEC economies, strengthening trade between the GBA, the APEC economies and markets worldwide, and helping keep global industrial and supply chains running smoothly and reliably.
While strengthening its international shipping services, YANTIAN has also continued to refine its integrated logistics system linking inland China to global markets. It has the only on-dock railway in Shenzhen running directly into the port area and keeps expanding its rail-sea intermodal, feeder and Port Alliance networks. As of June 2026, YANTIAN has launched 35 inland ports, 37 rail-sea intermodal routes, 15 Port Alliances, and 17 feeder routes, with service coverage extending across the GBA, Southwest China, and Central China. Scheduled services such as the "Chengdu-Shenzhen-Hong Kong" and "Chongqing-Shenzhen-Hong Kong" routes now run on a regular, stable basis.
YANTIAN has long advanced Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, working hand in hand with Hong Kong's Kwai Tsing Port to serve as the gateway linking inland China to global markets. Feeder services between YANTIAN and Kwai Tsing have been running for over 32 years, with 6 daily sailings, and container throughput has maintained year-on-year growth. After laden container volumes on the Hong Kong route grew by nearly 30% year-on-year in 2024, they rose a further 10% in 2025, a record high.
Going green is central to the international recognition YANTIAN continues to earn. In recent years, the port has accelerated its use of shore power, electrified its equipment, switched to cleaner energy and invested in smart-port technology, steadily pursuing a path on which efficiency gains and carbon reduction go hand in hand.
Over the decade from 2015 to 2025, annual throughput rose while carbon emissions per container fell by 32%, achieving throughput growth without added carbon.Shore power facilities now cover 100% of YANTIAN’s berths and maintain consistently high utilisation, laying firm foundations for cutting vessels’ fuel consumption and carbon emissions and reinforcing YANTIAN’s green port status.
Looking ahead, YANTIAN will keep enhancing its agility and resilience, raising the quality of its route services, multimodal transport, smart-port operations and low-carbon development, and further strengthening its overall service capability. It will also continue working closely with governments, shipping lines, railway bureaux and logistics partners, giving customers more stable, efficient, sustainable and reliable logistics solutions, adding fresh momentum to the national "Dual Carbon" goals and to the high-quality development of the nation's foreign trade.
The AFLAS Awards, hosted and organised each year by Asia Cargo News, recognise leading service providers including air and shipping lines, airports and seaports, logistics companies, thirdparty logistics providers and other associated industry professionals. Winners are chosen by the votes of international logistics companies and their clients, honouring the organisations that perform best in leadership, service, innovation, customer relationships and reliability. This year's ceremony was held in Shanghai on 24th June 2026.
